When I was 8, I had an accident and lost a kidney. I’ve been hospitalized for more than a week. While drawing the crabs that were painted in my room with the pencils that my grandpa gave me when visiting, I realized what happened. What it meant to be at the hospital, to have lost a kidney for the rest of my life…Hopefully, I made this supposedly traumatizing experience into a fuel that would help me set the rules of my life: what I wanted to do, what I wanted to make in this world and most importantly, what were my dreams ? I believe I made so little thanks to the people surrounding me: my family and friends: I realized how difficult it was to be in the hospital but also how much you can get from this experience. Today, I want to help others realize that but in my way. I’ve always been a good student and I think that’s the time to mix my skills, experience and dreams to make something great.

what is it ?: Leçon de Coeur is a charity project I started at the end of 11th grade in collaboration with the association “Petit Prince”. Petit Prince is an organisation that has the amazing goal of making sick children’s dreams come true. Leçon de Coeur is aiming to raise funds for these kids by helping other children with academic difficulties. I founded this whole project in order to help not only children that are in the same, even harder, condition that I was in while in, but also to help children in the elementary school that have some troubles with their academic results. The math was simple: I’m a high schooler in France, it’s hard to find a charity that would accept me, but I can use my academic skills and my willingness to help both students and childrens to build a structure that could reunite everything.

How I am trying to make this work: I love this project because it’s a win-win situation for everyone: parents have their children helped, childrens have better grades, kids in hospitals have their dream come true and high schoolers are developing useful and empathy based skills.
I make this work by contacting schools, libraries and social life spaces in order to promote the project. This comes with speeches, posters, and even promotion on social media! High schoolers and children in primary school enroll on the website and we assign each children, a tutor. Each 1h course is 7€ and all the profit is given to the charity Petits Princes.

the future of the project: In the long run, I want Leçon de Coeur to be a sustainable solution that could benefit both high schoolers, students and kids in hospital. I’d like this project to stay active even when I’ll need to go to college and stay as a children-coordinated project. I believe this project has a lot of potential and I’m sure it can work incredibly well!
